A NOTE FROM KEITH:

Thank you for visiting my re-election website. While here you can volunteer to help in the campaign, request a yard sign, and, of course, make a contribution.

Although there’s a message concerning my bio, I’d like to express why I’m running for re-election. Admittedly, thirty-two years is a lengthy time for one to serve as mayor, but there are two major projects that drove my decision to ask for the citizens to rehire me. The completion of both projects should take place over the next four years.

The first project is the 57 East Development. In July 2025, the Council and I approved a plan that calls for the City to sell the property to local developers and authorize the construction of a downtown hotel.  In addition, the site will include retail space, office space, restaurants, a food hall, and loft apartments. This exciting project will enhance Downtown Newnan for generations and lead to further off-site development.

The second project is the creation of a first class arboretum of 28 acres of city-owned property on the west side of the city. This is a joint project between Plant Newnan and the City. Plant Newnan is a non-profit that was formed in response to the need to reestablish Newnan’s urban tree canopy after the tornado in March 2021. Since the tornado, Plant Newnan has planted or given away over 3,000 trees in the impacted area. The completion of the Arboretum will be a signature event for the City of Newnan and Plant Newnan.

My commitment to Public Safety remains my first priority. Of course, keeping taxes low while providing a high service level is very important.

My vision for Newnan remains the same as it has for years. Simply said, the City will continue to honor our history while growing in a way that attracts the current generation to want to raise their family in Newnan.

Thank you again for visiting my re-election site. I hope I can count on your support and your vote on November 4th.

Sincerely,

57 East

Downtown’s Next Chapter:
57 East

57 East is a bold new vision for the heart of Newnan. Over the next few years, this transformative downtown project will bring a vibrant food hall, a mix of restaurants, new jobs, 16 modern loft apartments, and a boutique hotel, all woven into the fabric of our city’s heritage. 57 East isn’t just about development. It’s about creating a place to gather, to live, to experience, and to grow, a future-forward hub that reflects the spirit and promise of Newnan’s next era.

Interview With the Mayor

A 19-Year-Old's Take on Politics

By Lexi, Class of 2023

I’ll be honest—I didn’t really know what a mayor did before this interview. When my mom mentioned I was doing this story, I thought, “Okay,” but I didn’t understand local politics. Most of my generation doesn’t. We’re just now old enough to vote, and suddenly elections are on our radar for the first time.

But after sitting down with Mayor Brady, I realized something: local politics might be the most important thing we’re not paying attention to.

Q&A with Mayor Brady

So, what does a mayor actually do?

Technically, it’s part-time, but I’m on call 24/7. When the tornado hit in the middle of the night, I was out assessing damage in dangerous conditions. I’m a full-time mayor all the time. But the day-to-day work is about vision and policy. We don’t operate the city daily—we set policy which comes from vision, and then our city manager and staff put that vision into practice.

How has Newnan changed since you first became mayor?

When I first ran in 1993, Newnan had 9,500 people. My wife and I could knock on every door during the campaign. Today we have about 46,000 residents. Downtown is better now than it was then—back then, you could park anywhere downtown on a Wednesday afternoon. Now it’s vibrant, with an entertainment district where people want to gather.

Why should young people care about local politics?

Government is not driven by bureaucracy. It’s driven by the people who vote. Everything we do is geared toward listening to people. The Link trail? That came from residents. Pickleball courts? Citizens brought that idea forward. Our best ideas come from citizens getting involved.

What’s your vision for Newnan’s future?

We want our children to live here when they graduate from high school or college. We want to build a place where young people can visit and say, ‘I could live here.’ Years ago, young people couldn’t get out fast enough. Now, many who grew up here are moving back to raise their families.

What’s been the most rewarding part of your time as mayor?

Creating after-school programs for at-risk kids through the Boys and Girls Club. Some of those children went on to the Naval Academy and Air Force Academy. That’s probably the most fulfilling thing I’ve done.

What projects are you most excited about now?

The 57 East development, and building an arboretum to replace trees lost in the tornado.

My Takeaway

I came into this interview not really understanding what local government does or why I should care. I left realizing that the Newnan I love, the busy downtown, The Link trail where I exercise, even those pickleball courts, exists because people got involved and made it happen.

Mayor Brady’s message to young people like me? “Community engagement is important, whoever you are, and however old you are.”

For the first time, I actually get why local elections matter. This isn’t about distant politics, it’s about the place we call home.

Want to get involved?

Mayor Brady suggests attending city council meetings, reading the city’s comprehensive plan, and looking into boards and commissions. “I can help young people get on the list for board and commission openings,” he offered.
